Ramsey Seal & Snap-on Edge Trim

INSTRUCTIONS FOR FITTING RAMSEY SEAL AND SNAP ON EDGE TRIM

Starting with a bare metal door aperture, fit the clips, our reference RS25A, every few inches around the edge of the door aperture.  Then fit the Ramsey seal onto the metal edge.  It will be seen that the section of the Ramsey seal that fits onto the edge of the aperture is not ‘strong’ enough to hold itself in place.  It should therefore be glued in place and held in some temporary manner (e.g clothes pegs) until the glue has dried.

When the glue has dried start fitting the ‘snap on edge trim’ (often incorrectly referred to as furflex).  It is no longer possible to obtain ‘snap on edge trim’ exactly the same as the original.  This can result in the problem that the material opens up like a letter ‘V’ when it is pushed over the edge of the Ramsey seal and slides off.  The ‘snap on edge trim’ should open up like the letter ‘U’.  If this problem occurs, using a sharp knife cut off the edge of the Ramsey seal on the inside of the car, this reduces the thickness and makes it easier to fit the ‘snap on edge trim’. 

It should be noted that the purpose of the clips that were pushed onto the bare metal edge of the door aperture is to assist holding the ‘snap on edge trim’ in place.  A section of the clip on the inside of the car is not covered by the edge of the Ramsey seal even if the edge has not been cut off.

A customer has told us that he used a a special pair of pliers for glass  –  the inside jaws are smooth (only pliers with smooth jaws are suitable) and they are wedge shaped from the throat down to the pincers – they work really well for lightly squeezing the sides back together to fit better and hold.
